Best for: Teams that treat the asset, well or project as the unit of analysis and want the forecast built from the bottom up, asset by asset.
Not for: Buyers who need a settled platform this quarter. Spektra reached beta on 29 June 2026 and hits full commercial launch on 20 August 2026.
What it costs: Nothing published, and no /pricing URL exists in its sitemap. Roughly 50 separate Solutions each end at “Book a demo.” A 48-hour free trial exists and blocks data export.
What Rystad Energy sells
Jarand Rystad founded the company in Oslo in 2004 and still runs it as CEO. Its pitch is stated plainly on the homepage: “We build every forecast from the ground up, asset by asset.” The database behind that line covers 85,000 oil and gas fields, more than 2 million wells, 200,000+ power and renewables assets and 15,000+ data centres, drawn from 20+ years of proprietary research. The Well Solution adds 7,500+ land rigs.
Spektra, and its timing
Spektra is the browser-based platform that replaces the older desktop route. Rystad launched it in beta on 29 June 2026 after a pilot with 78 client companies, with full commercial launch set for 20 August 2026.
It ships with AskRystad, a natural-language query layer, plus MCP connectors for Copilot, ChatGPT and Claude and an API gateway. The predecessor is Cube Browser, a downloadable 64-bit PC client that queries data cubes on Rystad servers.
How it's packaged
The catalogue is cut into roughly 50 per-segment Solutions, from Upstream, Well, Offshore Rig, FPSO and Shale, to Refinery, Oil Trading and Gas & LNG Trading, to Solar, Wind, Hydrogen, CCUS, Carbon Markets and Data Center. A buyer licenses the segments the desk needs.
Advisory is a second business, with six lines covering strategy, transactions, energy market perspectives, advanced modelling, business models and operations, and policy and regulatory analysis. Rystad's own boilerplate claims 2,200+ ongoing projects for more than 500 clients.
Numbers that don't reconcile
Rystad's solution pages claim “900 — Team members across 60 countries” and “27 — Global offices worldwide.” Its story page describes a “600-strong team” across “more than 28 locations.”
Both sets are published on rystadenergy.com. The About and Careers pages render those counters as animated digit reels, so the figures can't be read from the page source at all.
