A three-person team pays $209 a month on Lite, $369 on Standard and $609 on Advanced before a single add-on, so the seat line moves the bill faster than the tier choice.

Prepaying a year saves $258 on Lite and $898 on Advanced, the only discount Ahrefs publishes.

Lite, Standard and Advanced include 5 to 20 tracked AI prompts, and anything wider runs through Brand Radar packages that start at $50 a month.

Ahrefs pricing starts at $29 a month for the Starter plan and tops out at $1,499 a month for Enterprise, which Ahrefs sells only on an annual commitment worth $14,990 a year, per the vendor's pricing page as of 4 October 2026. The three self-serve tiers in between, Lite at $129, Standard at $249 and Advanced at $449, each include exactly one user.

Every additional person bills on top of that plan fee. A second person on Lite adds $40 a month, a second person on Advanced adds $80, and Lite caps out at three people in total. Brand Radar prompt packages and four optional add-ons bill on top, and Ahrefs' own FAQ confirms that pay-as-you-go overage hits the card automatically once it's switched on.

This report covers every plan, add-on and post-checkout cost, what users say in reviews, and how Ahrefs' SEO tools price against Semrush, SE Ranking, Moz and SpyFu.

How much does Ahrefs cost in October 2026

The Ahrefs cost for one person ranges from $0 to $1,499 a month across six price points, Enterprise included. Vendors like Similarweb put their upper tiers behind a sales call (the Similarweb pricing teardown covers that model).

All figures are Ahrefs list prices in US dollars, read off the pricing page on 4 October 2026.

Ahrefs tier ladder as of 4 October 2026: Free $0, Starter $29 a month, Lite $129 or $1,290 a year, Standard $249 or $2,490 a year, Advanced $449 or $4,490 a year, Enterprise $1,499 a month or $14,990 a year, plus Brand Radar from $199, Content Kit from $99 and Report Builder at $99 a month
Six published price points, one included user on every self-serve tier.

Annual subscriptions run 16.7% under twelve monthly payments on each self-serve tier: $1,290 against $1,548 on Lite. Ahrefs rounds that to "save up to 17%", and moving an existing account to a yearly plan takes an email to support.

Ahrefs runs two pricing models side by side: a credit meter on Starter and Lite, and unlimited credits per user from Standard up. Ahrefs charges credits for reports and data lookups, so on the two metered tiers every report view draws down the month's allowance.

Ahrefs sells four main paid plans, Lite, Standard, Advanced and Enterprise, with Starter and Ahrefs Free underneath. Match the plan to the limit you'll hit first: seats, credits, tracked keywords or months of history.

Ahrefs pricing plans, tier by tier

Ahrefs Free and Ahrefs Webmaster Tools: $0

The free plan covers sites you can prove you own. Per the Ahrefs help center, it opens Site Explorer with 1,000 backlinks and keywords visible at once, Site Audit with 5,000 crawl credits a month per project and all 170+ default checks, Web Analytics up to 1,000,000 events, and one AI Content Helper document a month. Ahrefs still markets the same access on its Ahrefs Webmaster Tools page.

Keywords Explorer, with its search volume data, and Rank Tracker stay locked. A verified site gets a $0 crawl that finds technical SEO issues. Researching a competitor takes the paid Ahrefs tools, which start with Starter at $29 a month.

Ahrefs Starter plan: $29 a month

The Ahrefs Starter plan launched on 2 September 2024 as a credit-based tier, per the launch post. It carries 200 credits a month and adds Keywords Explorer, with its search volume and keyword difficulty data, plus Rank Tracker. The fine print reads like a lease:

  • No extra users, credits or add-ons can be bought on Starter.
  • Accounts on Lite or higher can't downgrade to Starter.
  • Starter renews monthly only.
  • Ahrefs can change Starter's features and limits without notice.

At $348 a year it's an entry point for keyword research on one or two sites, and 200 credits is a drop in the bucket for anyone running daily competitor checks.

Ahrefs Lite: $129 a month

Ahrefs describes the Lite plan as "Essential data for small businesses and personal projects." It costs $129 a month or $1,290 a year and includes 5 unverified projects, 6 months of historical data, 750 tracked keywords, 5 tracked AI prompts, 100,000 crawl credits and 1,000 credits per user each month. Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer, Site Audit, Rank Tracker, API access and the MCP Server all ship on Lite.

That's enough for backlink analysis on any website's backlink profile and organic traffic estimates for a handful of rivals. Read between the lines and the 1,000-credit meter caps how much of that feature list a Lite user can run, since every report draws it down and a heavy user hits the wall mid-month.

Standard plan: $249 a month

Standard costs $249 a month or $2,490 a year and lifts the limits to 20 projects, 2 years of historical data, 2,000 tracked keywords and 500,000 crawl credits. It's the first tier with Content Explorer, Portfolios, Batch Analysis, the broken backlinks and broken links reports, keyword clusters, search intent labels and AI keyword suggestions. Up to five extra users can be added at $60 each.

Advanced plan: $449 a month

The Advanced plan costs $449 a month or $4,490 a year. Over Standard, the Advanced plan offers more volume for advanced SEO work across many domains: 50 projects, 5 years of history, 5,000 tracked keywords, 20 tracked AI prompts, 1.5 million crawl credits and 75,000 rows per report. The feature additions are a Looker Studio integration, search type distribution, an agency directory listing and HTTP authentication in Site Audit.

For advanced reporting it raises the included Report Builder allowance to 15 reports, and its API access returns 500 rows per request.

Enterprise plan: $1,499 a month on an annual commitment

Enterprise lists at $1,499 a month with an annual commitment required, shown as $14,990 a year. Sales sets personalized higher limits for large organizations, and it's the only tier with three users included, unlimited historical data, uncapped API access, custom API endpoints, SSO and an audit log. The Enterprise page promises "best-in-class data, actionable insights, and tailored support".

The support list on that page names a dedicated Ahrefs account manager, tailored onboarding and 24/7 multilingual chat support.

What each Ahrefs plan gates: advanced features and limits by tier

Lite, Standard, Advanced and Enterprise share the core tools, Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer, Site Audit and Rank Tracker, and split on volume. Every number below comes from the comparison grid on the pricing page, checked 4 October 2026.

LimitLiteStandardAdvancedEnterprise

History is the limit an SEO strategy runs into first. Lite's 6 months can't show a year-on-year comparison, so tracking a site's performance across a full season starts at Standard. Site Audit draws crawl credits for every page a technical audit crawls, 100,000 a month on Lite and 1.5 million on Advanced. API access reaches every self-serve tier through Ahrefs Connect, metered at 200,000 integration units a month on Lite and 2 million on Advanced.

Rank tracking updates weekly on all four tiers, a bitter pill to swallow for anyone reporting daily movement, and the rank tracker pricing report prices daily tracking across 16 paid products.

The advanced features that matter for content marketing start at Standard: Content Explorer finds top performing content and the content gaps a competitor already covers, and the broken backlinks report in Site Explorer turns a rival's dead pages into link building opportunities. Verified projects are unlimited on every paid tier, so multiple projects for sites you own never cost an upgrade.

Ahrefs Brand Radar cost and the AI engines it covers

Brand Radar is sold two ways. Tracked prompts come inside every paid plan, 5 on Lite and 20 on Advanced, refreshed daily. The AI Visibility Index, which searches any brand's online visibility in AI answers, starts at $199 a month. The Brand Radar page puts that index at 449 million prompts, split across AI engines like this:

  • Google AI Overviews: 315,087,276 prompts
  • Gemini: 30,453,229
  • ChatGPT: 30,448,848
  • Perplexity: 30,225,557
  • Microsoft Copilot: 30,080,880
  • Google AI Mode: 12,741,843

Google AI Overviews carry the lion's share of the index, 70%, which skews any share-of-voice number toward Google AI answers. Claude is available only for custom prompts and consumes 8 checks per update. One prompt checked once on one AI platform in one location uses one check, and the packages sell checks in bulk:

  • Basic: $50/mo, 2,500 extra checks, $0.020 per check over
  • Growth: $100/mo, 7,000 extra checks, $0.015 per check over
  • Scale: $250/mo, 25,000 extra checks, $0.010 per check over

Brand Radar cost scales with platforms as well as prompts: Ahrefs' own example puts 100 daily prompts on two platforms in the $100 Growth tier.

Add-ons billed outside the platform fee

Four add-ons sit on the pricing page, each billed on top of any subscription:

  • Content Kit, from $99/mo: AI Content Helper and AI Content Grader for content analysis against ranking pages.
  • Report Builder, $99/mo: 50 reports, 500 widgets and scheduling, against the 5 to 25 reports each plan includes.
  • Project Boost Pro, $20/mo per project: always-on audit at 10 pages a minute, instant recrawl, IndexNow auto-submit.
  • Project Boost Max, $200/mo per project: Patches, batch AI in Site Audit and always-on audit at 30 pages a minute.

Per-project boosts cost an arm and a leg at agency scale: five client projects on Project Boost Max come to $1,000 a month, more than twice the Advanced plan underneath. Buyers comparing content analysis tools can weigh Content Kit against Positive Surfer, which sells content scoring as its core product.

Hidden costs: seats, credits, auto-charges and refunds

Seats are the biggest line kept off the headline price, and they stay under the radar until the second hire. Lite stops at three users, Standard at six and Advanced at eleven, and every seat bills monthly unless it's prepaid at $400, $600 or $800 a year.

Monthly Ahrefs bill for a three-person team on list prices as of 4 October 2026: Lite $209, Standard $369, Advanced $609, Enterprise $1,499 with three users included, with each tier's seat cap of 3, 6, 11 and unlimited users
Three users cost $209 on Lite and $609 on Advanced; Enterprise includes them at $1,499.

The FAQ spells out the automatic charges: extra users not prepaid are "automatically charged on a pay-as-you-go basis", and enabled pay-as-you-go credits bill once consumption passes the plan limit. Those top-ups expire after three billing months. Refunds are a long shot, since "Ahrefs does not issue refunds in general", and a monthly subscriber who asks can be declined after "any material activity" on the account.

The credit model drew complaints when Ahrefs introduced it in 2022. An SEO Manager reviewing Ahrefs on Capterra wrote:

"You are being charged "credits" for just breathing around the software. Logged into it 2 times, looked at a keyword ranking that's already generated and I "consumed" 8 credits."

Ramona J., SEO Manager, Capterra, 18 October 2022

A Hacker News commenter described the lockout side of the same change:

"Now if you “accidentally” use all 3,000 reports you are essentially locked out of the platform, like I was. What that means is that you can no longer use the export feature, which left me with a million+ unused rows."

skilled, Hacker News, 2 August 2022

The meter has since shrunk to two tiers: Lite at 1,000 credits per user and Starter at 200. An agency CEO on Capterra described a surprise bill on an account migrated to the new scheme:

"The new scheme is so complicated that your credit card can suddenly charge $1000s without your knowledge. When we contacted to customer support, they told us that beside the $2000 annual fee we pay, we also need to pay $3500 for additional keyword tracking (which we never signed up for, it was migrated from our old account, where usage was free) without our knowing."

Narek S., CEO, Capterra, 9 April 2024

Price changes land at renewal. Section 7.3 of the Ahrefs terms of service says any change in pricing comes "into effect upon renewal of your Subscription Plan", and section 7.2 bills every plan upfront, monthly or annually.

What buyers pay against the list price

Vendr's Ahrefs listing counts 58 deals handled in its header block, a thin sample next to the 50,000+ paying companies Ahrefs claims on its Enterprise page. Ahrefs pricing has a public rate card on every tier and the FAQ rules out discounts, so the invoice moves with the seats and add-ons stacked on it.

Paying month to month costs a three-person Advanced team $7,308 a year at list. Prepaying the plan and both seats brings that to $6,090, a $1,218 saving. Eleven users on Advanced billed monthly come to $14,988 a year, under Enterprise's $14,990 by a hair's breadth, and Enterprise includes three of those users.

Reviewers land on the same seat math. An E-Commerce Manager in retail wrote on Capterra on 4 March 2026 that Ahrefs "gives profound information, yet it would be terribly costly to share seats within the marketing department to work in a team." Hemkesh R., a Senior Digital Marketing Team Lead, wrote on Capterra on 24 February 2026: "The biggest concern is value for money, especially for freelancers and small teams, because the pricing is high."

How to negotiate an Ahrefs subscription

Ahrefs pricing leaves little room to haggle, and the FAQ calls a spade a spade: "We never run discounts." The paid plans carry no free trial, and the same answer points prospects to Ahrefs Free. The terms leave one door ajar, since section 7.3 says Ahrefs "may make unique promotional offers to select customers", so asking an Enterprise rep costs nothing. The pricing page lists no separate rate for schools, students or non-profits, so the no-discount line covers them too.

The levers that work are structural:

  • Prepay. Annual billing saves 16.7% on the plan and $80 to $160 a year on each prepaid seat.
  • Downgrade what you don't use. Moving from Advanced to Standard saves $200 a month, and downgrades apply at the end of the billing period while upgrades apply immediately.
  • Price Enterprise against Advanced plus seats. At eight users on Advanced, the monthly bill clears $1,000.
  • Cancel between projects. A cancelled account keeps access until the period ends, then drops to Ahrefs Free.

A Hacker News commenter described that last lever on 6 July 2024:

"So many marketers I know use Ahrefs literally for 2 days for keyword research for a new project and cancel right after. But they still have to pay for the full month."

spaceman_2020, Hacker News, 6 July 2024

Who each Ahrefs plan is priced for

Solo site owners and small businesses

Ahrefs Free covers a verified site's backlinks, organic traffic and site audit at $0. Starter at $29 adds keyword ideas for a few lookups a week, which fits small businesses running SEO campaigns without a full-time marketer.

Freelancers and competitor analysis

Ahrefs labels Standard "Perfect for freelance SEOs and marketing consultants." The feature split agrees: competitor analysis across 20 projects, Content Explorer and 2 years of history to show a client's search engine rankings before and after. The Lite plan supports one client's SEO strategy and backlink analysis until the credit meter runs dry.

SEO agency teams

An SEO agency feels the seat caps first. Five strategists fit on Standard for $489 a month, and a seventh person is the last straw for Standard, forcing Advanced, where client reporting for SEO campaigns runs on 15 included reports or the $99 Report Builder add-on.

Content marketing and in-house teams

Ahrefs pitches Advanced at "lean in-house marketing teams", and the 5-year history and Looker Studio connector back a long-term SEO strategy. Advanced SEO teams that need SSO, an audit log and uncapped API access have one option, the Enterprise plan.

Ahrefs cost compared with Semrush, SE Ranking, Moz and SpyFu

On entry tiers, Ahrefs sits near the top of the market and under Semrush. Here's how to compare Ahrefs with four alternatives on their published pricing plans, all checked 4 October 2026.

Tool and entry planMonthly priceYearly plan, per monthTracked keywords
Ahrefs Lite$129$108750, weekly
Semrush SEO$139$117.33500, daily
SE Ranking Core€109*€87.20*2,000, daily
Moz Pro Standard$99$79300
SpyFu Basic$3925% off5,000, weekly

Every price is the vendor's own published list price, checked 4 October 2026. *SE Ranking displayed EUR prices for this check. At the European Central Bank's reference rate of 1.1225 on 2 October 2026, €109 is about $122.

Entry-plan monthly list prices as of 4 October 2026: SpyFu Basic $39, Moz Pro Standard $99, SE Ranking Core 109 euros (about $122), Ahrefs Lite $129, Semrush SEO $139
Lite costs $10 a month less than Semrush's entry tier and $90 more than SpyFu's.

Cost compared per tracked keyword favours two cheaper plans: SE Ranking's Core tracks 2,000 keywords daily with 10 projects and 100 AI prompts for less than Ahrefs Lite, and SpyFu's $39 Basic plan, built around competitor research with Kombat domain comparisons, carries 10+ years of historical data.

Semrush's Advanced tier tops out at $549 against Ahrefs' $449. The full card is in the Semrush pricing breakdown and the product side in the Semrush review.

SpyFu's competitor data gets its own SpyFu review, and the competitive intelligence tools for SEO ranking scores all of these on one rubric. Teams that want the data through an API without seat licences can price it against DataForSEO pricing, which bills per request.

What to budget for Ahrefs in year one

Five setups, all on list prices:

  • Solo, keyword research only: Starter at $29 a month, $348 a year.
  • Solo site owner tracking a site's performance: Lite prepaid, $1,290.
  • Freelancer with content work: Standard prepaid plus Content Kit from $99 a month, from $3,678.
  • Three-person agency: Advanced prepaid, two prepaid seats and Report Builder, $7,278.
  • In-house team of three with AI visibility: Enterprise at $14,990 plus the AI Visibility Index from $199 a month, from $17,378.

The devil's in the details on the last two lines. Report Builder and Brand Radar are priced per month on the pricing page, so a budget built on annual subscriptions still carries monthly charges. Budgets for intelligence tools outside SEO sit in the competitive intelligence pricing report.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an Ahrefs subscription cost?

An Ahrefs subscription costs $29 a month on Starter, $129 on Lite, $249 on Standard, $449 on Advanced and $1,499 on Enterprise, as of 4 October 2026. Annual billing brings the three self-serve paid plans to $1,290, $2,490 and $4,490 a year.

Does Ahrefs have a free plan?

Yes. Ahrefs Free gives verified site owners Site Explorer, Site Audit with 5,000 crawl credits a month per project, Web Analytics and one AI Content Helper document a month. Site Audit flags SEO issues such as duplicate content and broken links on that verified site, and Keywords Explorer stays off the free plan.

Is Ahrefs worth the money?

For recurring SEO work, users mostly say yes and complain about the bill in the same breath. A Hacker News user wrote on 10 April 2024, "Ahrefs - expensive for individuals, but very much worth it as a business expense" (rozenmd). An Internet Marketing Manager at NetArt wrote on TrustRadius on 29 March 2023, "However, I find Ahrefs pricing a bit toward the higher side."

Which one is better, Semrush or Ahrefs?

On price, Ahrefs is cheaper at both ends of the self-serve card: $129 against $139 at entry and $449 against $549 at the top. Semrush tracks keywords daily on its entry tier, while Ahrefs updates weekly on every tier. Semrush also changed hands, covered in Adobe's Semrush acquisition.

What are the cons of Ahrefs?

One included user per self-serve tier, a 1,000-credit cap on Lite, weekly rank tracking on all plans, no refunds in general and a no-discount policy that's set in stone in the FAQ. A Marketing Manager on Capterra wrote on 21 October 2024: "which makes no sense why pay for a monthly subscription and then pay for more credits to get too the information. and the monthly fees are a little bit extreme."

Is there a free alternative to Ahrefs?

Ahrefs Free is the closest one for your own site, and Moz Pro and SpyFu sell cheaper SEO tools for everyone else's. For other domains, the website traffic analysis tools ranking and the digital marketing intelligence list rank more SEO tools, and the SEO visibility score report explains the online visibility metric most of them sell.

Bottom line

Ahrefs publishes a complete price list, and the plan fee on it is the plan fee you pay. The bill grows in the seat column, the credit meter on Lite, Brand Radar packages and per-project boosts, and the FAQ admits most of those charge automatically.

For one person on one site, Starter or Lite covers the work for $348 to $1,548 a year. For a team, read Ahrefs pricing seat by seat: eleven users on Advanced cost the same as Enterprise. Prepay what you'll keep, and cancel what you need for a week.

Sources, and the Ahrefs figures that sit with a sales rep

Plan prices, seat prices, limits, add-ons and Brand Radar packages were read off ahrefs.com/pricing and ahrefs.com/brand-radar on 4 October 2026. The free plan comes from help.ahrefs.com and ahrefs.com/webmaster-tools, the Starter launch date from the Ahrefs blog post of 2 September 2024, the Enterprise support list and the 50,000+ customer count from ahrefs.com/enterprise, and the renewal and billing clauses from sections 7.2 and 7.3 of ahrefs.com/legal/terms.

Competitor prices come from semrush.com, seranking.com, moz.com and spyfu.com, checked 4 October 2026, with the euro conversion at the European Central Bank reference rate for 2 October 2026. The deal count is from the header of vendr.com/marketplace/ahrefs. User quotes are verbatim from Capterra, TrustRadius and Hacker News, dated in the text.

Ahrefs publishes Enterprise limits as "from" figures and sets the higher limits per contract. Vendr's Ahrefs listing carries a deal count and no median contract value, so every price on this page is a list price.
