Snapchat averaged 493 million daily active users in the second quarter of 2026, up 5% on a year earlier, and 971 million monthly active users, according to Snap Inc.'s Q2 2026 earnings release (3 August 2026). Revenue over the trailing twelve months reached $6.35 billion. The growth sits almost entirely outside North America, where daily users fell 7% to 92 million.

This page collects the Snapchat statistics marketers, analysts and investors ask for most: daily and monthly active users, users by region and country, Snapchat's user demographics, usage figures such as Snaps sent per day, revenue and profit, ads, subscriptions and creator pay. Every number comes straight from the horse's mouth where one exists: Snap's own SEC filings, earnings releases and newsroom, or a named research house such as Pew Research Center or DataReportal.

These Snapchat statistics are written for anyone who needs a sourced figure for a media plan, a pitch deck or a model. Where Snap's own counts and outside trackers give different answers for the same question, the page names both and explains the gap.

Snapchat users: daily and monthly active users in 2026

Snap reports two user counts every quarter. Daily active users (DAU) are the number Snap has published since its 2017 listing; monthly active users (MAU) arrived later and run about twice as high. In Q2 2026 the platform's users came to 493 million daily active users and 971 million monthly active users, per the Q2 release.

The quarter before, Snap reported 483 million DAU and 956 million MAU, both up 5% year over year, in its Q1 2026 release. So Snapchat added 10 million daily users and 15 million monthly users in three months.

Snapchat daily active users by year

Snapchat's user base has nearly doubled since the end of 2020. The fourth-quarter figures below come from Snap's own year-end releases; the 2016 figure is from its IPO prospectus (Form S-1).

Growth in Snapchat users hasn't been a straight line. In February 2018 Snap rolled out a redesign of the app, and its Q2 2018 Form 10-Q says the redesign "negatively impacted our DAUs", which fell 2% quarter over quarter to 188 million. Snap launched an app update to the redesign during that same quarter, a partial trip back to the drawing board within five months.

Million monthly active users and what each count means

The two counts measure different things. Snap's 2025 Form 10-K defines a DAU as a registered, logged-in Snapchat user who visits the app or website at least once in a 24-hour period, counted once per user per day and averaged over the quarter.

MAU applies the same test over a month, so 971 million monthly active users against 493 million daily ones means roughly half of monthly users open Snapchat on a given day. For the same period a year earlier, Q4 2025, Snapchat reported 946 million MAU and 474 million DAU.

The 10-K also lists what the counts miss. Snap says it hasn't determined how many accounts are created for malicious purposes, and that a methodology change in Q1 2025 added less than 1% to DAU.

Snapchat users worldwide by region and country

Snap splits Snapchat users into three regions, and they're moving in opposite directions. Q2 2026 figures from the earnings release:

RegionDaily active usersChange year over yearRevenue, Q2 2026ARPU
North America92 million-7%$943 million$10.26
Europe98 million-2%$354 million$3.62
Rest of World303 million+12%$302 million$1.00
Total493 million+5%$1.60 billion$3.25
Two stacked bars comparing Snapchat's Q2 2026 daily active users by region with revenue by region: North America 92 million users (19%) but $943 million revenue (59%), Europe 98 million users and $354 million, Rest of World 303 million users (61%) but $302 million revenue (19%)
North America is 19% of Snapchat's daily users and 59% of its revenue.
Made to order

Send the regions you sell into and I'll chart users against revenue, as this page does for North America.

Email a brief

ARPU, average revenue per user, is quarterly revenue divided by average DAU. North America takes the lion's share of the money. A North American Snapchatter was worth $10.26 in the quarter, ten times a Rest of World user at $1.00. That's why a 7% decline in Snapchat users in North America weighs more on Snapchat revenue than a 12% gain elsewhere adds; North American revenue still grew 15% because ARPU there rose 23%.

Rest of World passed 60% of daily users in 2026. It reached 294 million DAU in Q1 2026 and 303 million in Q2.

Largest Snapchat user base: India, the US and Pakistan

Snap doesn't publish users by country. The closest public source is Snap's own advertising tools, which DataReportal (Kepios) compiles. In January 2025, Snapchat ads could reach 709 million users worldwide, up 31.1 million (4.6%) in twelve months. The largest Snapchat user base by that measure:

  • India: 208 million
  • United States: 106 million
  • Pakistan: 37.5 million
  • France: 27.8 million
  • Saudi Arabia: 24.7 million
  • United Kingdom: 23.9 million

Indian users alone, the biggest slice of Snapchat's user base, outnumber Snap's entire reported North American DAU of 92 million. The 709 million total equals 12.7% of the world's internet users, or 13.5% of everyone aged 13 and over outside China, where Snapchat is blocked.

Snapchat's user demographics: age group, gender and younger generations

Most Snapchat users are young: 55.4% of Snapchat's ad audience is aged 13 to 24. Snap's 10-K says "the majority of our users are 18-34 years old", and the ad-audience data DataReportal published for January 2025 breaks the base down by age group:

  • 13 to 17 age group: 18.3% (9.5% female, 8.8% male)
  • 18 to 24 age group: 37.1%
  • 25 to 34: 24.8%
  • 35 to 49: 14.9%
  • 50 and over: 4.0%

That puts 80.2% of the reachable audience under 35. The gender split is close to even: 50.7% male, 48.4% female and 0.9% unknown, per the same DataReportal page.

Teens, Gen Z and female Gen Z users

Snapchat reaches 55% of US teens aged 13 to 17 on social media, and 12% say they're on it almost constantly, according to Pew Research Center's fall 2025 survey of 1,458 teens. Girls lead: 61% use Snapchat against 49% of boys, which makes female Gen Z users the stronger of Snapchat's two US teen segments.

Snap's own claim about younger audiences is wider. Its advertising site says Snapchat reaches 90% of 13 to 24 year olds and 75% of 13 to 34 year olds in more than 25 countries. The footnote dates that to Snap internal data from Q4 2023, measured as monthly users divided by UN population estimates for 2021.

Older users

Snap is courting older Snapchat users too. Its advertiser homepage says 50% of US Snapchat users are over 25 (Snap internal data, March 2024). Among all US adults, 25% used Snapchat in 2025, per the Pew Research Center social media fact sheet, down from 27% in 2023 and 2024. Pew's 2025 report on 5,022 adults says the youngest adults stand out in their use of Snapchat.

Snapchat usage statistics: Snaps, time spent and app opens

Snapchat usage statistics start with the core product: photos and videos that delete by default. Snap's privacy page says "Snaps and Chats are private and delete by default", and most Stories delete after 24 hours. Disappearing messages made Snapchat one of the first camera-first messaging apps, and they still sit behind the usage numbers below.

How many Snaps users send per day

Snapchat users created nearly 2 trillion Snaps in 2025, which works out to 5.5 billion Snaps per day, 3.8 million per minute and 63,000 per second, per the Snap newsroom (24 March 2026). In its 2017 S-1, Snap said over 2.5 billion Snaps were created every day by 158 million daily users.

The total more than doubled, but output per person fell. Dividing Snap's figures gives about 15.8 Snaps per daily Snapchat user in 2016 and about 11.6 in 2025 (5.5 billion against 474 million Q4 2025 DAU). That's our calculation from two Snap disclosures.

How much time users spend on Snapchat

The most quoted figure for how long users spend on the app, 30 minutes a day, traces back to the S-1: "Our community spends an average of 25 to 30 minutes on Snapchat every day." The same filing said daily users opened Snapchat more than 18 times each day. The 25-to-30-minute range describes 2016 users.

App opens have risen since. Snap's advertising site says Snapchat users opened the app over 30 times a day in Q4 2020, and its homepage repeats "30+" daily app opens for US users in 2025. Thirty-plus opens a day is a frequency count of active sessions. Time spent passively scrolling Spotlight is a separate metric that Snap reports as growth, such as the 11% rise in total Spotlight viewing time in Q1 2026.

Snap Map, Snap Games and AR Lenses

Snapchat's features beyond messaging each have their own audience. The Q1 2026 investor letter reports:

  • Snap Map: more than 450 million monthly users globally
  • Snap Games: 255 million monthly users, a business that flies under the radar next to Spotlight
  • AR Lenses: used 9 billion times per day on average
  • Augmented reality: more than 75% of Snapchatters engage with it every day
  • Lens submissions: over 400,000 in Q1 2026, up more than 150%

Users engage with augmented reality daily at Snap's scale. In Q4 2025, more than 350 million Snapchat users engaged with AR daily and Lenses were used 8 billion times a day, per the Q4 2025 release. Gen AI Lenses drew more than 700 million users over 17 billion times. Lens Studio, the creative tools developers use to build face, world and voice filters, had been downloaded more than 1 million times by the end of 2024.

Snap has put hardware behind those AR lenses since 2016. Spectacles, its first hardware product, launched in late 2016, and Snap held the launch event for Specs, its augmented reality glasses, in Los Angeles on 16 September 2026, per the Snap newsroom. Lens submissions for Specs rose 28% in Q1 2026, a sign of how often developers and users engage with AR on Snapchat.

Snapchat revenue statistics and profit

Snap Inc. generated $5.93 billion in 2025 revenue, up 11% from $5.36 billion, and lost $460 million, per its Q4 2025 release. Adjusted EBITDA rose to $689 million and free cash flow to $437 million.

Bar chart of Snap Inc. annual revenue and net loss from 2020 to 2025: revenue $2.51 billion, $4.12 billion, $4.60 billion, $4.61 billion, $5.36 billion and $5.93 billion; net loss $945 million, $488 million, $1.43 billion, $1.32 billion, $698 million and $460 million
Snapchat revenue grew 2.4 times from 2020 to 2025, and the company lost money in every one of those years.

The 2026 revenue stats are running ahead. Q1 revenue rose 12% to $1.53 billion and Q2 rose 19% to $1.60 billion. Snap guided Q3 2026 revenue to $1.70 billion to $1.74 billion and adjusted EBITDA to $300 million to $350 million in its Q2 prepared remarks. Snap bit the bullet on costs in the same quarter: $128.5 million in restructuring charges, and full-time headcount down 9% to 4,723.

Snapchat ads and ad revenue

Snapchat ads still generate most of the money. Advertising made up 87% of total revenue in 2025, against 91% in 2024 and 96% in 2023, per the 10-K. On $5.93 billion of revenue, 87% puts 2025 Snapchat ad revenue at about $5.2 billion.

Advertising revenue grew 9% to $1.28 billion in Q2 2026. Two products carried the growth in Q1, per the investor letter: Dynamic Product Ads revenue grew more than 30% year over year, and Sponsored Snaps, ads delivered into the Chat inbox, lifted click-through rate 226%. Small and medium-sized businesses contributed more than 30% of global ad revenue.

Snapchat+ and the premium subscription

Snapchat introduced Snapchat+ on 29 June 2022 at $3.99 a month, in nine countries including the US, UK and Saudi Arabia, per the launch post. The premium subscription had over 2 million paying subscribers by Q4 2022. Snapchat announced on 18 February 2026 that its paid tiers (Snapchat+, Snapchat Platinum, Lens+ and Memories Storage plans) had passed 25 million members and a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate, per the newsroom.

Subscriptions are how Snap plans to generate revenue beyond ads; with 87% of 2025 revenue from advertising, most of its eggs still sit in one basket. Other Revenue grew 87% to $285 million in Q1 2026 and 85% to $316 million in Q2, and the Q2 remarks say fewer than 3% of MAU pay, a drop in the bucket that leaves room to grow. Snap reported 24 million subscribers in Q4 2025, up 71%.

Brand content, Snap ads and ad recall: what Snap's commissioned studies say

Many Snapchat stats about brand content and ad performance come from studies Snap paid for. They're real studies with named vendors, each one is Snap's own marketing material, and several are years old, so read between the lines on the dates. Here's where each widely repeated figure comes from:

ClaimStudy and dateWho paid

Sources: the why-Snapchat page ($4.4 trillion), the ecommerce page ($5 trillion, 34%), the creative best practices post (64%), the creator guide (16%) and the Brand Reset post (4.4%).

The dentsu study says Commercials, Snap's non-skippable video format, led on mental availability and ad recall, but publishes no recall percentage. Read the ad recall claim as a ranking, with the 4.4% spend lift and a 24% long-term sales lift over non-skippable formats on other platforms as the only numbers behind it. Snap also cites GWI's global consumer survey (H1 2025, US) for the figure that 40% of US Snapchat users aren't on TikTok daily.

Spotlight, Snapchat influencers and creator pay

Snapchat launched Spotlight on 23 November 2020 as a feed allowing users and creators to post viral videos, and hit the ground running by paying out "more than $1 million" a day at launch, per the launch post. Spotlight puts Snapchat in the same public short-video market as TikTok and Instagram Reels.

It's growing. In Q2 2026 the number of US users posting to Spotlight rose more than 115% and Spotlight daily active viewers rose more than 20%, per the Q2 remarks. In Q1, Spotlight shares and reposts grew 62% globally.

For Snapchat influencers, the rules changed on 1 February 2025, when a unified monetization program began allowing users to earn from Spotlight videos longer than one minute, per the Snap newsroom. To be invited, a creator needs at least 50,000 followers, 25 posts a month, posts on 10 of the last 28 days, and either 10 million Snap views, 1 million Spotlight views or 12,000 hours of view time in 28 days.

Snapchat against other social media platforms

Snapchat is about a third the size of Instagram on social media user counts. Instagram passed 3 billion monthly users in September 2025, per TechCrunch, about three times Snapchat's 971 million. Among US teens and young social media users, Pew's fall 2025 survey shows how Snapchat stacks up against other social media platforms:

PlatformUS teens who use itUse it almost constantly
YouTubeAbout 9 in 10About 1 in 5
TikTokAbout 6 in 1021%
InstagramAbout 6 in 1012%
Snapchat55%12%
Facebook31%3%
X16%n/a

Among US adults on social media, 25% use Snapchat, against 50% for Instagram and 37% for TikTok on the social media platforms Pew tracks, per Pew's 2025 report. For a brand whose target audience is under 25, Snapchat is a key platform for reaching younger audiences and younger generations; above 35 it's a long shot, with 18.9% of the ad audience aged 35 or over.

The social media statistics report covers the wider set of social media users, and sibling pages cover Instagram statistics, TikTok statistics, Facebook statistics and Reddit statistics.

Why Snapchat user numbers disagree

Search for how many Snapchat users there are and you'll find at least four answers. Each one counts something different, and each is accurate for what it counts. The devil's in the details of the definitions.

Horizontal bar chart of five published Snapchat audience counts: 971 million monthly users (Snap, Q2 2026), 709 million ad reach (DataReportal, January 2025), 493 million daily active users (Snap, Q2 2026), more than 450 million Snap Map monthly users (Snap, Q1 2026), and 255 million Snap Games monthly users (Snap, Q1 2026)
The same app produces counts from 255 million to 971 million depending on the definition.
  • Snap's DAU (493 million) counts logged-in users who open the app on a given day, averaged over a quarter.
  • Snap's MAU (971 million) applies the same rule over a month and runs twice as high.
  • Ad reach (709 million, January 2025) is what Snap's ad tools say advertisers can target. DataReportal notes ad reach can include duplicate and inauthentic accounts, and runs below the MAU companies report.
  • Survey penetration (Pew's 25% of US adults) asks people if they ever use the app; it measures share of a population.

Third-party app trackers add a fifth view. DataReportal's Digital 2026 report notes that Snapchat ranks higher in Similarweb's app-usage panel than in GWI's survey of internet users.

App Annie announced its rename to data.ai in 2022 and was bought by Sensor Tower on 18 March 2024; those panels estimate from device samples, and their figures don't reconcile with Snap's logged-in count. Our Similarweb review and the app market intelligence guide explain how those panels are built.

Stale numbers cause most of the confusion in Snapchat statistics. The "265 million users" in 2020 was Q4 2020 DAU; "250 million daily AR users" predates the 350 million Snap reported for Q4 2025; "435 million Snap Map users" predates the 450 million in Q1 2026. Use the latest earnings release, and keep DAU and MAU in separate columns.

Snapchat's history in numbers

The Snapchat community traces back to two Stanford University graduates. Co-founders Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy both hold degrees from Stanford University, per Snap's management page. The S-1 lays out the early timeline:

  • 2011: Snapchat begins as Picaboo, a picture messaging app on iOS
  • 2012: Picaboo is renamed Snapchat, and Snapchat released its Android app
  • 2013: Stories launch
  • 2015: Discover and Lenses launch
  • 2016: Spectacles, Snap's first hardware product
  • 2017: S-1 filed with 158 million DAU
  • 2020: Spotlight launches
  • 2022: Snapchat+ launches
  • 2026: Specs AR glasses launch event, 16 September

Snapchat's success with new users shows in the count: 158 million DAU at the S-1 and 493 million in Q2 2026, with Spotlight, Snapchat+ and Lens releases in between. The augmented reality statistics report sizes the wider AR market, and the creator economy statistics page covers what platforms pay creators.

Frequently asked questions

How many Snapchat users are there?

Snapchat users numbered 971 million a month and 493 million a day in Q2 2026, per Snap's earnings release. Those are Snapchat usage counts of logged-in accounts; Snap doesn't publish a count of unique people.

Is Snapchat growing or declining?

Both, depending on the region. Global DAU grew 5% in Q2 2026, driven by a 12% rise in Rest of World, while North American daily users fell 7% to 92 million and Europe fell 2% to 98 million.

Has Snap ever made a profit?

Only in single quarters. Snap posted net income of $45 million in Q4 2025 and $9 million in Q4 2024, but every full year has ended in a loss, $460 million in 2025, and the accumulated deficit reached $13.9 billion at the end of 2025.

How much does Snapchat pay per 1,000,000 views?

Snap publishes no per-view rate. Its unified monetization program, live since 1 February 2025, pays eligible creators for Spotlight videos longer than one minute, and the entry bar is 50,000 followers plus 10 million Snap views, 1 million Spotlight views or 12,000 hours of view time in 28 days.

Who uses Snapchat more, male or female?

Globally it's close: 50.7% male and 48.4% female in Snap's January 2025 ad audience. Among US teens, girls lead 61% to 49%, per Pew.

Is Snapchat bigger than Instagram?

No. Instagram reported 3 billion monthly users in September 2025, about three times Snapchat's 971 million. Among US teens the gap is smaller: about six in ten use Instagram against 55% for Snapchat.

Does Gen Z use Snapchat anymore?

Yes. Snapchat, the app built on disappearing messages, reaches 55% of US teens and 12% use it almost constantly, a share Pew says has changed little since 2022. Ages 13 to 24 make up 55.4% of Snapchat's global social media ad audience.

Bottom line

Snapchat is a 493-million-daily-user app whose growth now comes from Rest of World markets, where India is Snap's largest ad audience, while the North American users who pay the bills shrank 5% to 7% a year in the last three reported quarters. Revenue reached $6.35 billion over the last twelve months from a social media audience of 971 million monthly users, and subscriptions are the fastest-growing slice of it.

For anyone quoting Snapchat statistics, the method is short: take user counts and revenue from Snap's latest earnings release, take penetration from Pew, take country splits from ad-reach data, and label every Snap-commissioned study as Snap's. Keep an eye on Q3 2026 results, where Snap has guided revenue to $1.70 billion to $1.74 billion.

Snap newsroom and advertiser pages: newsroom.snap.com (Snapchat+ launch, 25 million subscribers, 2 trillion Snaps, Spotlight launch, creator monetization, Specs launch date) and forbusiness.snapchat.com (audience reach, ecommerce, creative and creator studies).

Surveys and audience data: pewresearch.org (teens, social media and AI chatbots, December 2025; Americans' social media use, November 2025; social media fact sheet) and datareportal.com (Kepios Snapchat audience data, January 2025; Digital 2026 global overview).

Other sources: techcrunch.com (Instagram 3 billion users, September 2025), sensortower.com (data.ai acquisition) and values.snap.com (privacy by product).

Every figure was checked against its source on 16 October 2026. Snap publishes no user count by country and no unique-person count, so country figures on this page are ad-reach estimates.
