Cision pricing in 2026: CisionOne, PR Newswire and the contract terms
Cision sells CisionOne by quote. Every package on its request page ends at a "Talk to an expert" button, and the numbers that exist sit elsewhere: a $12,625 median contract on Vendr, a PR Newswire guide that charges $1,020 for one national release, and general terms that raise every renewal by 5%.
This report puts those figures in one place. It covers the four CisionOne packages, what PR Newswire and PRWeb charge per release, the renewal clauses in both sets of terms, what 107 tracked purchases paid, a public-sector contract with its dollar figure on the record, and how Cision compares with Meltwater, Muck Rack and Brandwatch.
It's written for PR teams, communications teams and marketing teams pricing a media database, media monitoring or press release distribution before the first sales call, and for finance teams checking a renewal notice. PR professionals at agencies will find the seat and market math in the budget section.
The numbers Cision pricing, checked 6 October 2026
A median Cision contract costs about what twelve US1 national releases cost on PR Newswire's 2024 card.
The 5% renewal clause turns a $12,625 contract into $13,919 by year three unless the order form says otherwise.
The notice window doubles as a deadline: 30 days on the platform terms, 90 days on PR Newswire's.
How much does Cision cost
Cision's median contract is $12,625 a year, based on 107 purchases Vendr tracked, with a low of $3,150 and a high of $30,368. Vendr reports average savings of 25.53% against the first quote, which tells you the opening number is rarely set in stone. Entry-level contracts sit at the bottom of that range, which starts at $3,150; half the tracked purchases came in under $12,625.
Cision's own answer is a consultation. Its CisionOne FAQ describes "options based on users, features, and service levels" and sends buyers to a representative for the package. The request pricing page promises to "recommend the best package" during a short consultation, and the Canadian PR software page carries one line of copy above a form: "We have scalable packages to fit your organization's needs."
That form has a small cost of its own. Its consent line says Cision may contact you with "marketing communications (newsletters, webinar invitations, event invitations, product information and educational resources)". The PR Newswire demo form names Brandwatch, CisionOne and PR Newswire as the brands that may follow up.
The cost of Cision splits into two bills. The platform fee covers CisionOne or Brandwatch on an annual contract. Distribution through PR Newswire is billed per release and per circuit on top, with a separate membership fee.
CisionOne packages and what each one gates
Cision One pricing starts from four packages on the request page. Cision quotes each one, and the page lists inclusions only. Cision launched CisionOne in the UK in July 2023 and in the US on 17 October 2023, so UK users had early access by three months.
Journalist Outreach
This is the media database package, and Cision database pricing follows the same quote route as the rest. The database page claims "more than 600,000" media profiles validated by an in-house research team. The package lists:
- Up-to-date media contacts and a "Talking About" search
- AI-powered pitching for media outreach
- Customizable distribution of press releases to your own lists
- Outreach performance metrics and reporting
Older listings, such as one Cision alternatives roundup, still quote 1.4 million contacts. Cision's current page says 600,000, and that's the figure a buyer should hold the sales rep to.
Media Monitoring
Cision calls this "Comprehensive media monitoring" on its monitoring page. The FAQ dates the archive by source, and the dates decide how far back a media report can reach:
- Online news sites and print: generally available from March 2022
- TV and radio: from April 2023, with clips expiring after 28 days
- Podcasts: from June 2023, with clips expiring after 90 days
- Facebook and YouTube: from October 2023
- X: 30 days of historical data
Mention Streams filter by language, Potential Audience Reach, advertising value equivalency, sentiment and an Impact Score. Alerts run in real time or on a schedule, and the mobile app runs on iOS.
The FAQ sells Quick Action Buttons that handle repetitive tasks in one click "to save time and boost efficiency". CisionOne connects to Slack, Microsoft Teams and Google Analytics, its API returns mention data in JSON and CSV for business reporting, and curated email reports track opens and audience data.
Media Monitoring + Social
This tier adds social listening across social media platforms, combined dashboards for traditional and social conversations, and publishing to your own channels. Deeper social analytics live in Brandwatch, which Cision bought in 2021 and sells as a separate contract; our report on what Brandwatch costs covers that bill.
A Verified User in public policy wrote on G2 on 30 May 2024 that CisionOne "takes fewer steps to get to the same result" and that "Cost is high, but less than biggest competitor," with richer social reporting available "if your contract includes Brandwatch."
CisionOne Suite
The suite bundles Journalist Outreach, Media Monitoring and Insights, and Social Listening and Engagement. Cision's October 2023 launch release added features such as Narrative Tracking, which merges social and earned coverage to show what shapes public perception, Stance, a sentiment model, and a Brand Risk Score that flags hate speech, fake news and spam around a brand.
Read between the lines of the package list: the suite is the only tier that carries all three capabilities, which makes it the ceiling of any quote.
How to request pricing and what drives a Cision quote
Four inputs move the number. The FAQ names three of them: users, features and support levels. The fourth is scope: which of the four packages you buy, and how many regions it covers.
- Users. The general terms bar password sharing: "a User's password may not be shared with any other individual." Seats are counted, and a login can only be reassigned to a new person.
- Modules. Outreach, monitoring, social listening and the full suite are quoted as separate packages, and Brandwatch is a separate contract again.
- Geography. Cision runs regional sites for APAC, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, the UK and the US, per its April 2025 financing release. Multi-market monitoring and distribution add to the scope.
- Support tier. Every customer gets an account manager, per the FAQ. Support runs through live webinars, weekly office hours, a help site, in-platform chat and a customer support team. Sales takes calls on 1-877-269-3367, per the Canadian page, and public-sector buyers email GSA@cision.com. News briefing services are a separate line, one of two Cision lists on its GSA Schedule.
Section 5.1 of the general terms settles one question buyers ask: fees "are based on the Platform, Services, and/or Content subscribed to and not actual usage". Light users pay the same as heavy ones. The contracting company is Cision US Inc., with notices going to Tysons, Virginia from 1 September 2025.
PR Newswire press release distribution costs: the 2024 rate card
Cision newswire pricing is the one part of the bill with a printed card. PR Newswire's 2024 Pricing Guide, effective 1 January 2024 and hosted by the Independent Book Publishers Association, prices each circuit for a 400-word release plus each extra 100 words.
| PR Newswire circuit | 400-word release | Each extra 100 words |
|---|---|---|
| 12-month membership | $305 a year | n/a |
| US1 national | $1,020 | $325 |
| Top Markets (industry lists) | $790 | $235 |
| Regional (Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, West/Southwest) | $715 | $205 |
| DC Region, New York Metro, New York State, New Jersey plus NYC | $590 | $175 |
| All other state and local options | $460 | $170 |
| World General News | $6,070 | $1,670 |
| Premier Global | $10,375 | $2,760 |
Every figure here is a PR Newswire list price from its 2024 Pricing Guide, effective 1 January 2024. None is a Vendr median.
Word count is where the bill climbs. A 600-word US1 release costs $1,670, and a first-time sender adds the $305 membership for $1,975. The guide says PR Newswire reaches audiences in more than 170 countries in more than 40 languages, and Premier Global runs $10,375 for the same 400 words. Membership includes PR Newswire for Journalists, where the guide says over 290,000 journalists, bloggers and influencers look for story leads.
The membership fee is printed twice with two answers. The 2024 guide lists $305, while PR Newswire's client terms say membership fees "may range from $99 - $249 and are subject to annual increases." Ask which number your order form uses.
PRWeb is Cision's self-serve wire, with a Cision US Inc. copyright line on its rates page. It charges a flat price per release:
- Basic, $120: search visibility, 48-hour turnaround
- Standard, $245: adds syndication to 1,200+ websites powered by PR Newswire
- Advanced, $360: adds email to one curated industry media list and proofreading, 24-hour turnaround
- Premium, $480: adds a content recommendation network
PR Newswire Amplify, the AI layer for planning, writing and reporting on news releases, sits on top of PR Newswire's distribution system and is demo-only on its product page. It claims access to "500,000+ newsrooms, journalists, influencers and digital media outlets" and a SOC 2 Type II environment.
Some buyers skip the wire. Corey J., Head of Strategic Communications at a mid-market company, wrote on G2 on 2 July 2026 that CisionOne outreach gets releases to local media "without needing to use a costly newswire service." A small-business owner on the same platform paid for the wire and regretted it:
"In February 2026, after a 1.5-hour phone interview with their salesperson, I signed a contract for €3,190 to distribute my press release to targeted media and journalists."
Marco C., PDG, small business, G2 review, 21 September 2026
The same reviewer reported 946 pickups, mostly automatic copies on aggregator sites, distribution in 31 countries against five targeted markets, and collection letters after he disputed the invoice.
Contract terms that add to the bill
The renewal clause matters more than the quote. Section 10.3 of Cision's general terms, carrying a notice dated 1 September 2025, sets these rules:
- Subscriptions renew automatically for the expiring term or one year, whichever is shorter.
- Non-renewal needs written notice at least 30 days before the term ends.
- Renewal fees rise 5% automatically unless the prior price was promotional, you change products, or the order form says otherwise.
- Invoices are due net 30, and late balances accrue 1.5% a month in interest charges.
- Payment obligations are non-cancelable, and fees paid are non-refundable outside Section 10.6.
PR Newswire's client terms carry the same 5% uplift with a 90-day notice window. A buyer holding both contracts on the same end date has two diary dates, 60 days apart.
At 5% a year, a $12,625 contract becomes $13,256 in year two and $13,919 in year three, $39,800 over three years. That's a drop in the bucket next to an enterprise budget and a red flag for a nonprofit, which is where the complaints cluster:
"There are no pricing options. It's a very expensive tool for small organizations, especially nonprofits. Users also need to be aware they bill automatically and don't allow you to cancel."
Paul M., small business, G2 review, 16 July 2026
"The renewal price is expensive, and I think some of the newer additions from CISION should be included in the baseline price of CISION, like the AI platform recently acquired."
Verified User, non-profit organization management, G2 review, 1 October 2026
Trustpilot users are harsher. Cision's profile there shows a 1.6 rating from 32 reviews as of October 2026; our Is Trustpilot legit report explains how much weight a sample that size carries.
"Their media database isn't well maintained, they have unreasonable auto renewal policies and their customer service is abysmal."
Katie Bennett, Trustpilot, 16 June 2026
"Cision also got us with the auto-renewal clause that others have mentioned in their reviews."
Sawyer, Trustpilot, 5 May 2026
What buyers pay: the Vendr spread and a public contract
Vendr's spread runs from $3,150 to $30,368, almost ten times from bottom to top. The low end is a quarter of the median, and the high end, a multi-module enterprise deal at that size, is 2.4 times it.
Public records give the one Cision contract with a named buyer. The Port of Los Angeles board report dated 30 April 2019 awarded Cision media monitoring across print, broadcast and social at "$18,150 annually for three years, not to exceed $54,450." Three firms bid on 4 March 2019, and the award cut the port's spend by $52,050, or 49%, against the previous contract.
That's straight from the horse's mouth: a three-bidder tender cut a public agency's monitoring bill by 49%. The award, $18,150 a year for print, broadcast and social, sits 44% above today's Vendr median.
Federal, state and local agencies have two other routes. North Carolina ran statewide IT contract 920N with Cision US Inc. for media monitoring from 1 July 2018 to 31 December 2024, and Cision joined the GSA Schedule under contract 47QTCA25D00DA, announced on 12 November 2025.
How to negotiate a Cision contract
Vendr's 25.53% average saving says the first quote has room in it. PR pros weighing a multi-year term should bite the bullet only after the uplift clause is rewritten. In order:
- Diary the notice date on day one. 30 days for the platform, 90 for PR Newswire. Miss it and the term rolls over at plus 5%.
- Strike the 5% clause in the order form. Section 10.3 lets "otherwise agreed to by the Parties in an Order Form" override it. Ask for a 0% or capped renewal in writing.
- Price the wire separately. Ask for a release bundle priced below the 2024 guide's $1,020 US1 rate, or send local releases through CisionOne outreach.
- Bring a competing quote. Muck Rack's Vendr median is $13,000 and Meltwater's is $25,800; either quote gives the rep a number to beat.
- Count the seats you need. Logins can't be shared, so every extra user is a line item. Ask which capabilities and features sit in the base package.
- Protect your inbox. The quote form consents to newsletters, webinar invitations, event invitations and educational resources, so a buyer running three vendor quotes should use one dedicated address.
Once bitten, twice shy: four of the five complaints quoted above describe auto-renewal or automatic billing. The ball is in your court for the 30 days before the term ends.
Cision's owners, debt and lawsuits
Ownership explains the bundling. Cision has bought the wire, the social listening product and an AI search tool, and each one became a line on the quote.
- June 2016: Cision bought PR Newswire from UBM for $841 million, per Fortune.
- October 2019: Platinum Equity agreed to take Cision private at $10.00 a share, about $2.74 billion. The company then listed more than 4,800 employees in 22 countries and described its customers as "public relations and marketing communications professionals."
- June 2021: the Brandwatch acquisition closed.
- July 2024: Dow Jones sued Cision in New York Supreme Court for nearly $174 million over an eight-year exclusive content license, Bloomberg Law reported; Cision, the company holding the license, paid $8.8 million for the first year. The two settled on confidential terms on 12 September 2025.
- April 2025: Cision raised $250 million in new money and pushed debt maturities to 2030 and 2031, with about 99% of senior secured lenders signing on.
- December 2025: Cision bought Trajaan, which tracks search trends across traditional search engines, e-commerce, social and generative AI assistants, to add search capabilities to Brandwatch, CisionOne and PR Newswire.
The license gave Cision exclusive rights to distribute Dow Jones content, including a subset of Factiva, for public relations and corporate communications use, per Editor and Publisher. A buyer whose monitoring depends on licensed news sources should ask which licenses the contract names.
Cision against the alternatives
Quote-only rates are par for the course in this category, so the table uses Vendr medians for the enterprise vendors and published rates for the rest.
| Vendor | What it sells | Annual figure | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cision (CisionOne) | Media database, monitoring, social, wire distribution | $12,625* median | Vendr |
| Muck Rack | Media database, monitoring, pitching, measurement | $13,000* median | Vendr |
| Meltwater | Media monitoring, social listening, outreach | $25,800* median | Vendr |
| Brandwatch (Cision-owned) | Enterprise consumer intelligence, social listening and analytics | $50,000* median | Vendr |
| Prezly | Newsroom, PR CRM, email campaigns | €1,200 (Essential, €100 a month billed annually) | Prezly |
| PRWeb (Cision-owned) | Self-serve news release wire | $120 to $480 per release | PRWeb |
Figures marked * are Vendr median annual contract values from tracked purchases. The others are list prices from each vendor's own pricing page.
Meltwater pairs media monitoring with social listening under one contract, and our Meltwater pricing report breaks down its tier floors and its 60-day renewal clause. Its ownership history sits in the Meltwater acquisition report.
Muck Rack's homepage pairs media relations with measurement, the same four jobs CisionOne sells: database, monitoring, pitching for media outreach and reporting. Its median sits $375 above Cision's. Both show up in our media monitoring tools ranking.
Prowly's site now reads "Prowly is now the Semrush AI PR Toolkit," and sign-up runs through the toolkit. pr.co lists GEO among its features and sells three plans, Start, Scale and Enterprise, by quote on its plans page. Prezly's Essential plan features one user and up to 5,000 contacts.
Buyers who need social only can skip the media relations stack. Our social listening tools ranking, the report on what social listening tools cost, and our breakdowns of Brand24 plans and Sprout Social plans cover published self-serve rates for brand monitoring on social. For Cision's own social product, see the Brandwatch review and the Brandwatch vs Sprinklr comparison.
Which PR teams Cision is priced for
Cision says it serves more than 75,000 organizations, including 84% of the Fortune 500, per its about page and press releases. That page lists four brands: PR Newswire Amplify, CisionOne, Brandwatch and Trajaan. The quote model, annual terms and renewal clause fit enterprise communications teams with procurement teams that read Section 10.3. Annual auto-renewing terms also make it a multi-year commitment: three years at the median, with the 5% clause, come to $39,800.
Small teams that send two or three releases a year and want a media database for local outreach sit at the bottom of Vendr's range. Two of the G2 renewal complaints above come from small organizations, one of them a nonprofit. For a team like that, the lion's share of year one is the platform fee: $12,625 against $1,440 for three PRWeb Premium releases.
PR teams at agencies running PR campaigns for several clients need every seat and every market priced. Cision's annual 2025 State of the Media Report surveyed 3,000+ journalists in 19 markets and found 86% of journalists reject a pitch that misses their beat, while 72% still cite press releases as the most useful resource PR teams can offer. It's also a media report from the vendor selling the database, so keep an eye on the source when a rep quotes it.
What to budget for year one
Here's a worked scenario for a mid-sized communications team: the Vendr median for the platform plus six 600-word US1 releases on PR Newswire's 2024 card. Every input is linked above.
| Line item | Year one | Year two |
|---|---|---|
| CisionOne platform at the Vendr median, 5% uplift in year two | $12,625* | $13,256* |
| Six 600-word US1 releases at $1,670 each | $10,020 | $10,020 |
| PR Newswire membership | $305 | $305 |
| Total | $22,950 | $23,581 |
Figures marked * start from the Vendr median annual contract value. The release and membership lines are PR Newswire 2024 list prices.
For example, swap the six US1 releases for six PRWeb Premium releases at $480 and the wire line drops to $2,880. That $7,140 saving is more than twice the $3,223 that Vendr's 25.53% average discount takes off a $12,625 contract, so circuit choice is where informed decisions save the most. Year two assumes the PR Newswire membership holds at $305, which the client terms don't promise.
Frequently asked questions
Is PR Newswire the same as Cision?
PR Newswire is a Cision brand. Cision bought it from UBM in June 2016 for $841 million, and it now sits beside CisionOne, Brandwatch and Trajaan in Cision's portfolio. Cision PR pricing covers both: the platform contract and PR Newswire's per-release card are billed separately.
How much does PR Newswire cost?
PR Newswire's 2024 guide charges $1,020 for a 400-word US1 national release, plus $325 per extra 100 words, and $460 for the cheapest state circuit. Membership is $305 a year on that guide. Premier Global starts at $10,375.
What is CisionOne?
CisionOne is Cision's PR platform, sold as four packages: Journalist Outreach, Media Monitoring, Media Monitoring + Social and the full suite. It combines a database of 600,000+ media profiles with monitoring, analytics, AI pitching and release distribution.
What are the key differences between Meltwater and Cision?
Cision owns its wire, PR Newswire, and its social listening product, Brandwatch. Meltwater sells monitoring, social listening and outreach under one contract at a $25,800 Vendr median, about twice Cision's $12,625.
Is Cision free to use?
Cision sells by annual contract, and every CisionOne package routes to a consultation. The lowest purchase Vendr tracked was $3,150 a year, and PRWeb's cheapest release is $120.
What is the cheapest press release service?
Inside Cision's catalog, PRWeb Basic at $120 per release is the cheapest. PR Newswire's cheapest circuit is $460 for 400 words, plus the $305 membership.
Is Cision PR Newswire reliable?
PR Newswire has run for more than 70 years and its Amplify platform holds SOC 2 Type II compliance. Pickup quality draws complaints: one G2 reviewer, writing in September 2026, counted 946 pickups, mostly automatic copies on aggregator sites.
How many employees are at Cision?
Cision listed more than 4,800 employees across 22 countries in the October 2019 Platinum Equity deal announcement, its last published headcount.
How much does Cision cost per year?
The Vendr median is $12,625 a year across 107 purchases, with a range of $3,150 to $30,368. Contracts renew at plus 5% a year unless the order form says otherwise.
Bottom line
Cision's platform costs about $12,625 a year at the median, and the devil's in the details: a 5% automatic uplift, a 30-day notice window on the platform and a 90-day window on PR Newswire. Those clauses decide the three-year cost more than the first quote does.
PR Newswire is the one Cision product with a printed card, at $1,020 per US1 release before word overage. Communications teams that send few releases can cut that line with PRWeb or with CisionOne outreach.
Get the renewal cap, the seat count and the release bundle on the order form before the business signs. Without them, the quote is the floor of the bill.
Where each Cision figure comes from, and what Cision keeps off the page
Contract medians, ranges, purchase counts and the 25.53% average saving are Vendr's header figures for Cision, Muck Rack, Meltwater and Brandwatch, read off vendr.com. Renewal, notice, payment and seat clauses come from Cision's General Terms and Conditions on cision.com, carrying a 1 September 2025 notice, and from PR Newswire's client terms on the same domain.
Release rates come from PR Newswire's 2024 Pricing Guide, effective 1 January 2024 and hosted on ibpa-online.org, and from PRWeb's rates page on prweb.com. Package contents and archive dates come from the CisionOne FAQ and product pages on cision.com.
The public contracts are the Port of Los Angeles board report dated 30 April 2019, North Carolina contract 920N on it.nc.gov, and Cision's GSA release of 12 November 2025. Buyer quotes come from G2 and Trustpilot and carry their review dates. All figures checked 6 October 2026.
Cision publishes no list price for any CisionOne package and no per-seat price, so every platform figure above comes from tracked purchases or a public tender.
