Social media management software pricing in 2026: 14 vendors from $0 to $50,000 a year
The numbers Social media management software, 14 vendors, checked 6 October 2026
Hootsuite's $12,405 Vendr median equals about five Professional seats at the $2,388 annual list rate.
A third Sprout Social Professional seat adds $3,588 a year; a third user on Buffer's Team plan adds $0.
Brandwatch's tracked median is 4x Hootsuite's.
Social media management pricing runs from a free Buffer plan with three channels to a Brandwatch contract with a $50,000 median on Vendr. Between those two points sit six billing units, and they make sticker prices impossible to compare at a glance: Hootsuite charges per seat, Buffer per channel, Sendible per workspace, Emplifi a flat fee with unlimited users, and Sprinklr quotes everything.
This report checked 14 vendors' own pricing pages on 6 October 2026, pulled Vendr's tracked contract data for the quote-only platforms, and priced one scenario across all of them: a three-person team running 10 social media profiles. That team pays $495 a year on Later and $14,988 on Emplifi. Same headcount, same profile count, a 30x spread, and more than ten thousand dollars a year between Sprout Social and the cheapest social media management tools.
It's written for small businesses picking a first tool, agencies pricing social media management tools for their accounts, and enterprise social media managers defending a marketing budget. It also covers social media management services and the social media management cost of hiring people, because the search results for this topic mix tool prices with freelancer rates, and a buyer comparing the two needs both sets of numbers on one page.
How social media management pricing works
Scheduling is the core feature every plan on this page includes, and at this point it's a dime a dozen, so the price differences sit in seats, profiles & add-ons. Social media management pricing comes in different pricing models, and every vendor in this report bills on one of six units. The unit decides who pays most. On a per-seat plan every login is a line item: five Hootsuite Standard seats cost $5,940 a year before a single extra feature.
- Per user seat: Hootsuite at $99 to $399, Sprout Social at $79 to $399, Agorapulse at $79 to $149 on annual billing.
- Per social channel: Buffer, $5 or $10 a month for each of your social media channels.
- Per workspace, brand or social set: Sendible ($35 for 1 workspace and 6 profiles), Planable ($33 per workspace), Later ($18.75 for one social set of 8 profiles), Metricool ($20 for up to 5 brands).
- Flat tier with a user cap: SocialPilot ($25.50 for 1 user and 7 accounts), Loomly ($49 for 3 users and 12 accounts), Zoho Social (€10* for 1 team member and 14 channels).
- Flat platform fee with unlimited users: Emplifi, from $1,249 a month.
- Quote only: Sprinklr and Brandwatch.
Annual billing discounts show up on nearly every pricing plan, from 15% to 33%, and for a team sure of its headcount a penny saved is a penny earned. SocialPilot and Sendible take 15% off, Loomly and Later 25%, Zoho Social 33%, Metricool up to 24%, and Buffer gives two months free. Sprout's Essentials seat runs $79 billed yearly against $99 billed monthly.
Profile caps are the second gate. Sprout Social's Essentials and Standard plans connect 5 social profiles; Hootsuite Standard connects 10 social media accounts; every paid Agorapulse tier stops at 10. A brand on more social media platforms than the cap hits an upgrade before it hits a seat problem.
Five vendors here hold approval workflows back for upper tiers, and a team that needs sign-off on post drafts to keep everyone on the same page pays for that tier on day one:
- Hootsuite puts content approval on Advanced, $399 a seat.
- Buffer adds approval workflows with the Team plan at $10 a channel.
- Sendible adds assignment and approvals at Plus, $99 a month, on top of the monitoring and engagement tools in Core.
- Metricool's post approval system sits in Advanced, from $53 a month.
- Planable's Basic plan carries two approval types; Pro adds required approvals.
Per-seat platforms: Hootsuite, Sprout Social and Agorapulse
Seat pricing is the costliest pricing model for teams. The three vendors below publish their rates, and the per-seat price gradually increases as features move up each pricing plan. Per-seat billing also turns a powerful tool into a headcount tax: the fifth Sprout Social Professional seat costs the same $3,588 a year as the first.
Hootsuite: $99 to $399 per user a month
- Standard: $99 per user a month, billed annually, to manage up to 10 social media accounts across multiple social networks, unlimited scheduling, AI content creation for posts & images, one inbox.
- Professional: $199, unlimited social accounts, inbox automation, trend forecasting up to 90 days ahead, creating custom reports.
- Advanced: $399, approval workflows, message routing, team performance tracking.
- Enterprise: custom quote, with advanced listening, single sign-on and compliance tooling.
The 14-day free trial needs no credit card, but Hootsuite's plans page caps trial accounts at 10 to 20 posts a day per organization and blocks bulk scheduling during the trial. Vendr's Hootsuite listing tracks a $12,405 median across 96 purchases, from $5,600 to $34,486, with buyers saving 15% on average. The full Hootsuite pricing breakdown covers the plan gates seat by seat.
The seat math bites when a team grows. An enterprise digital marketing specialist reviewing Hootsuite on G2 on 27 June 2026 described the jump:
"For a manufacturing business trying to expand its multi-platform presence, adding extra users to collaborate on brand messaging pushes you into expensive enterprise tiers."
Enterprise digital marketing specialist, G2 review of Hootsuite, 27 June 2026
Sprout Social: $79 to $399 per seat, with add-ons sold separately
- Essentials: $79 per seat a month billed yearly, $99 billed monthly, 5 social profiles.
- Standard: $199 per seat, 5 social profiles, community management tools (a consolidated inbox, keyword and location monitoring, review management).
- Professional: $299 per seat, unlimited profiles, competitor and paid insights, AI Assist for post content creation.
- Advanced: $399 per seat, sentiment in the inbox, the Sprout API, helpdesk integrations.
- Enterprise: custom.
Every seat carries 100 Trellis AI agent credits a month, and the iOS and Android app runs on any mobile device on every plan.
Premium Analytics, Listening and Employee Advocacy are add-ons from Standard up, each priced through a sales call, and Influencer Marketing sells without any Sprout plan. Vendr's Sprout Social data puts the median buyer at $18,980 a year across 217 deals, from $6,281 to $55,000, with 14.02% average savings. Our Sprout Social pricing report runs the seat math in detail, and the Sprout Social review scores what each tier delivers.
Seat cost shows up in Sprout Social's G2 reviews, from buyers who found that each extra person can cost an arm and a leg. A brand marketing director at a small business wrote on G2 on 15 May 2025: "I'm also frustrated with how expensive it is to add another seat." A marketing manager at another small business hit the add-on wall on G2 on 15 April 2026:
"I do wish the "Listening" option were not an add-on - it is too expensive for us to use"
Marketing manager, small business, G2 review of Sprout Social, 15 April 2026
Agorapulse: $79 to $149 per user on annual billing
- Standard: $79 per user a month annually, $99 monthly, 10 social profiles.
- Professional: $119 annually, $149 monthly, adds ad comment monitoring & team assignments.
- Advanced: $149 annually, $199 monthly, adds community management automation (automated moderation, saved replies), shared calendars, advanced reporting.
- Custom: tailored pricing with unlimited profiles and SSO.
Agorapulse's pricing model keeps a free plan after its 30-day trial and offers nonprofit pricing on request. Advanced Listening, Advocacy, Competitive Benchmarking, X Lite and X Plus all sit outside the seat price. A small-business user on G2 on 7 August 2023 described what the base price includes:
"I like that Agorapulse has the full social media management suite included in the base packages, without too many add-ons or hidden fees."
Small-business user, G2 review of Agorapulse, 7 August 2023
Channel, workspace and flat-tier plans for small businesses and agencies
Eight vendors sell social media management tools without charging per login. For small businesses and any social media management agency handling multiple profiles, these plans stretch a marketing budget furthest, and their pricing structure rewards adding people.
| Vendor | Billing unit | Entry plan | Top self-serve plan | Users |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Buffer | Per channel | $5/channel a month (Essentials) | $10/channel a month (Team) | 1 on Essentials, unlimited on Team |
| Later | Per social set (8 profiles) | $18.75/mo yearly, 1 set | $82.50/mo yearly, 6 sets | 1 to 4, extra users $3.75 |
| SocialPilot | Flat tier | $25.50/mo yearly, 7 accounts | $170/mo yearly, 50 accounts | 1 to unlimited |
| Sendible | Per workspace (6 profiles) | $35/mo, 1 workspace | $750/mo, 50 workspaces | Unlimited |
| Loomly | Flat tier | $49/mo yearly, 12 accounts | $249/mo yearly, 60 accounts | 3 to unlimited |
| Planable | Per workspace | $33/workspace, 4 pages | $49/workspace, 10 pages | Unlimited |
| Metricool | Per brand bundle | $20/mo yearly, 5 brands | $159/mo yearly, 50 brands | Unlimited on Advanced |
| Zoho Social | Flat tier | €10*/mo yearly, 14 channels | €330*/mo yearly, 20 clients | 1 to 5 |
Every price in this table is a vendor list price from its pricing page, checked 6 October 2026; Vendr medians appear only in the key figures and the quote-only section. *Zoho Social showed euro prices on 6 October 2026; at the ECB reference rate of 1.1225 (2 October 2026), €10 is $11.23 and €330 is $370.43. Sendible's figures are monthly billing, 15% lower on yearly.
Buffer, like Later, quotes different pricing for monthly and yearly billing, and its bill scales with channels. The Team plan costs $120 a year per channel with unlimited users, and the per-channel rate drops once a workspace passes 10 channels. A digital marketing executive reviewing Buffer on G2 on 25 November 2025 called it "cost burdensome when we need to manage multiple social accounts or access advanced features".
Later's social set holds one profile on each of eight social media platforms: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube, Threads and Snapchat, and the monthly posts cap applies to each platform profile separately.
Later, SocialPilot and Loomly sell extras by the unit. Later charges $11.25 a month per extra social set and $3.75 per extra user; SocialPilot charges $4 per extra account and $5 per extra user; Loomly bills a yearly plan upfront and won't let it end early, a red flag for a team that might shrink mid-year. Loomly also gives nonprofits a 50% lifetime discount.
Sendible and Planable give agencies the best of both worlds: per-workspace prices and unlimited users. Each Sendible workspace adds 6 profiles, from Core (1 workspace, 6 profiles) to Enterprise (50 workspaces, 300 profiles), with unlimited users on every plan.
Planable's Basic plan lets a team publish content up to 60 posts per workspace a month and Pro allows 150, both open to as many users as a client needs, and yearly billing knocks two months off. Sendible likewise lets many users share one workspace at no extra cost.
Metricool counts brands, and a brand holds one profile on each of the different social media platforms it supports, so every Google Business Profile location needs its own brand. Team members are unlimited only on Advanced, which starts at $53 a month yearly for 15 brands. Zoho Social's agency editions start at €230* a month yearly ($258.18) for 10 clients and 5 team members.
Quote-only enterprise platforms and what Vendr tracks
Quote-only pricing is par for the course at the enterprise end. Sprinklr ended its last self-service route on 30 April 2026, the end-of-service date in Sprinklr's own Self-Serve notice. Every new Sprinklr Social deal now runs through enterprise sales and a custom quote. The Sprinklr pricing report covers contract structure, the Sprinklr review scores the product, and the Sprout Social vs Sprinklr comparison sets the two side by side.
Implementation time is part of the cost at this end of the market. A hospital and health care reviewer at an enterprise account wrote on G2 on 26 August 2025: "Onboarding took months and months of work."
Brandwatch's pricing page lists standard to enterprise plans for each of its three products, Social Media Management among them, and routes every price to a demo form. Vendr tracks a $50,000 median across 40 Brandwatch purchases, from $19,542 to $81,200, with 15.29% average savings; that figure covers Brandwatch contracts as a whole, consumer intelligence included. See the Brandwatch pricing report, the Brandwatch review and the Brandwatch vs Sprout Social comparison.
Emplifi is the one enterprise vendor here that publishes a starting price. Social Marketing Essential starts at $1,249 a month and Advanced at $2,499, both with unlimited users & profiles; the Intelligent tier is quote-only. Vendr's Emplifi listing shows a $23,714 median, from $19,269 to $30,000, which sits between the Essential list price ($14,988 a year) and Advanced ($29,988). Even a Brandwatch buyer at Vendr's tracked low pays $19,542, above the Hootsuite median.
What a three-person team managing 10 profiles pays
The scenario: 3 users, 10 social media profiles, annual billing wherever a vendor offers it, the cheapest pricing plan that clears both limits. Prices come from each vendor's pricing page on 6 October 2026.
| Vendor | Plan that fits | Annual cost |
|---|---|---|
| Later | Growth, 2 social sets, 2 users plus 1 extra user | $495 |
| SocialPilot | Standard, 3 users, 15 accounts | $510 |
| Zoho Social | Premium, 3 team members, 16 channels | €480* ($538.80) |
| Loomly | Starter, 3 users, 12 accounts | $588 |
| Planable | Pro, 1 workspace, 10 pages, 12 monthly payments | $588 |
| Metricool | Advanced, 15 brands, team access | $636 |
| Sendible | Plus, 3 workspaces, 18 profiles, yearly | $1,010 |
| Buffer | Team, 10 channels | $1,200 |
| Agorapulse | Standard, 3 seats | $2,844 |
| Hootsuite | Standard, 3 seats | $3,564 |
| Sprout Social | Professional, 3 seats | $10,764 |
| Emplifi | Social Marketing Essential | $14,988 |
Every annual cost in this table is built from vendor list prices, checked 6 October 2026; Vendr medians appear only in the key figures and the quote-only section. *Zoho Social prices in euros, converted at the ECB reference rate of 1.1225 (2 October 2026).
Per-seat vendors take the lion's share of the expensive end, three of the four costliest rows. Sprout Social lands near the top because of a profile cap. Its Standard plan connects 5 profiles, so 10 profiles force Professional at $299 a seat, and three seats come to $10,764. On Hootsuite the same team fits inside Standard's 10-account limit at $3,564.
The bottom of the table is crowded. Six social media management tools land between $495 and $636, and the differences come down to the devil in the details: Later needs one extra user at $3.75 a month, Metricool grants team access only on Advanced, and Sendible's Core plan stops at 6 profiles, which pushes this team onto Plus.
What drives social media management pricing up
Eight inputs move a self-serve bill or a quote, and each vendor's pricing model weights them differently. Knowing which one drives a vendor's price tells a buyer where the social media management cost will climb first:
- Users: the main driver on Hootsuite, Sprout Social and Agorapulse, and a $0 line on Buffer Team, Sendible, Planable and Emplifi.
- Profiles across multiple platforms: each extra Buffer channel adds $10 a month on Team, each Sendible workspace adds 6 profiles, and a brand that moves onto more platforms outgrows Sprout's 5-profile Standard plan.
- Clients and brands: Zoho Social's agency editions manage 10 or 20 clients, Planable bills per workspace and Metricool per brand bundle.
- Posting volume and content creation: Later caps Starter at 30 posts per profile and Growth at 180, Planable caps Basic at 60 posts per workspace and Pro at 150, and Metricool's free plan stops at 20 posts a month. Daily posting on one profile runs about 30 posts a month, which fills Later Starter's cap and breaks Metricool's free limit; weekly posting, about 4 a month, fits every free plan on this page.
- Engagement and paid social: Sprout's Professional plan adds paid insights, and Advanced adds sentiment in the inbox and message spike alerts for teams that manage engagement at volume.
- Integrations: the Sprout API arrives on Advanced at $399 a seat, Metricool's API and Zapier connection on Advanced, and SocialPilot's API access on its Enterprise plan.
- Analytics history: Later keeps platform analytics for 3 months on Starter, 1 year on Growth and 2 years on Scale, and Buffer's free plan keeps 30 days against unlimited history on Essentials.
- Professional services: Sprout Social sells Professional Services at multiple package levels, covering strategy reviews, trainings and listening consultations, and Hootsuite lists training and success as its own line on the plan table.
The order matters for budgeting. A team that plans to add people should price the per-seat social media management pricing first; a team that plans to add brands & clients should price the per-workspace and per-brand plans first, then match the pricing plan to its business goals and content strategy for the next 12 months.
Add-ons priced outside the plan fee
The platform fee is often a drop in the bucket next to the add-ons a growing social media strategy needs. Buying listening from a separate vendor means running multiple tools and paying two platform fees. These are the extras each vendor prices separately:
- Social listening, the elephant in the room for most teams: Planable charges $82.50 per workspace a month; Sprout Social, Agorapulse and Hootsuite Enterprise sell listening through sales. The social listening pricing report and the social listening tools ranking cover the dedicated vendors.
- AI credits for creating captions and replies: Later sells 100 extra content creation credits for $3.75 a month; SocialPilot includes 500 to unlimited credits by tier; Metricool includes 5, 20 or 35 credits per brand a month; Zoho Social 5 to 80; Sprout Social 100 per seat.
- Extra users and profiles: Later at $3.75 a user and $11.25 a social set; SocialPilot at $5 a user and $4 an account.
- X access: Metricool charges $10 a month per connected X account; Agorapulse sells X Lite and X Plus.
- Detailed analytics: Metricool's Advanced Analytics add-on starts at $12 a month on Starter and $36 on Advanced; Planable's analytics add-on costs $12 per workspace; Sprout's Premium Analytics is quoted.
- Hashtag tracking: Metricool bills $25 a day per tracked hashtag on Instagram or X.
- Employee advocacy and influencer programs: add-ons at Sprout Social and Agorapulse. The influencer marketing platform pricing report covers standalone creator tools.
A nonprofit reviewer at a mid-market organization described running out of Sprout's Trellis credits on G2 on 27 July 2026:
"There's not a lot of transparency into how Trellis (the internal AI tool)'s credits are expended, which can make it a surprise when you suddenly run out halfway through the month with no warning."
Nonprofit reviewer, mid-market organization, G2 review of Sprout Social, 27 July 2026
Free plans and trial lengths
Five social media management tools keep a free tier after the trial ends, which makes the free route a real option for a business creating a social media presence for a single brand:
- Buffer: 3 channels, 1 user, 10 scheduled posts per channel, 30 days of analytics history, and no strings attached, since signup takes no credit card.
- Zoho Social: 1 brand, 6 channels, 1 team member.
- Metricool: 1 brand, 20 posts a month, 30 days of analytics, LinkedIn and X excluded.
- Agorapulse: a free plan available indefinitely after the 30-day trial.
- Planable: the first 50 posts free with no time limit.
Trial lengths: Sprout Social and Agorapulse 30 days; Zoho Social 15; Hootsuite, Buffer, Later, SocialPilot and Sendible 14. Sprinklr, Brandwatch and Emplifi run demos.
Software against social media management services and agency fees
Social media marketing pricing splits into software and social media management services, and the services side starts higher. Upwork puts the median social media manager at $20 an hour, with typical rates between $14 and $35; the $14 end is where beginners start. Clutch, from verified client reviews updated 21 September 2026, puts the average social media marketing agency at $25 to $49 an hour and US agencies at $100 to $149.
Clutch also reports that most social media marketing projects it reviewed came in under $10,000, while the average project ran $61,148.53 over 12 months, about $5,107 a month. That average is a monthly retainer bigger than three years of Hootsuite Standard for one seat.
Agencies offer social media management services under five pricing structures, and each one prices different services in its own way:
- Hourly billing for services such as strategy, account management and reporting, at the Upwork and Clutch rates above.
- Monthly retainer: a fixed fee for ongoing services, from strategy and creating posts to content creation, community management and reporting.
- Project based pricing: a fixed fee for one deliverable, such as launch marketing campaigns or a profile audit.
- Monthly package: social media management packages with a set number of social media posts per platform, often with creative design and video production priced by complexity; a monthly package from a freelancer and one from an agency can cover different services at different prices.
- Performance based pricing: a fee tied to results such as leads, sales or a share of managed ad spend in paid social and ad management.
Social media management packages bundle content, engagement and reporting, so compare the social media posts per month, the different platforms covered, and if paid ads and ad spend sit inside the fee or on top of it. For paid ads budgeting, the CPM calculator turns ad spend into impressions.
The tool cost sits inside the price of agency services. An agency handling multiple clients pays €330* a month yearly ($370.43) for Zoho Social Agency Plus with 20 clients, $85 a month yearly for Metricool Advanced with 25 brands, or $750 a month for Sendible Enterprise with 50 workspaces. Those are fixed costs that don't move when the agency signs new clients, until a cap breaks.
What to budget by team size
Social media management tools sort into budget creator tools, mid-market platforms and enterprise suites, and five budget bands follow from who is creating the posts and how many social media accounts they run:
- Solo creator or small business with one brand: $0 on Buffer, Zoho Social or Metricool's free plan to schedule posts, or $60 to $588 a year for a paid plan that adds analytics features and more platforms.
- Team of three on 10 profiles: $495 to $1,200 a year on channel and workspace plans, $2,844 to $10,764 on per-seat plans.
- Agency managing 10 to 50 clients: $85 to $750 a month on brand or workspace plans, before any services are billed to clients.
- Mid-market team of five or more seats: Vendr's tracked medians of $12,405 for Hootsuite and $18,980 for Sprout Social.
- Enterprise social media marketing teams: $14,988 to $29,988 a year at Emplifi list prices, a $50,000 Vendr median at Brandwatch, and a custom Sprinklr quote.
Social media managers negotiating a renewal have room on quote-only and seat-based numbers. Vendr buyers saved 15% on Hootsuite, 14.02% on Sprout Social and 15.29% on Brandwatch. Annual commitments lock in the discount and the seat count together, and Loomly's yearly plan can't end early, so bite the bullet on yearly billing only for the seats this year's team needs and gradually increase the count as the headcount grows.
For audience numbers to plan the business goals behind the budget, the social media statistics report tracks usage across the major social media platforms and the marketing efforts each one supports.
Frequently asked questions
What is the 50/30/20 rule for social media?
The 50/30/20 rule is a social media strategy shortcut that splits a content calendar into 50% created content, 30% curated content and 20% promotional posts, as PR Daily laid it out on 19 August 2026. Creating content in-house to engage or inform fills the 50%; curated content comes from outside sources such as industry news.
Which social media management tool is free?
Buffer, Zoho Social, Metricool and Agorapulse all keep free social media management tools on a permanent plan. Buffer's covers 3 channels with a 10-post queue per channel; Metricool's covers 1 brand and 20 posts a month; Zoho Social's covers 1 brand and 6 channels. Planable gives the first 50 posts free.
How much does a social media manager cost?
A freelance social media manager on Upwork, hired to manage posts and engagement, has a median rate of $20 an hour, and the $14 low end is where beginners start. A social media marketing agency on Clutch averages $25 to $49 an hour. The average Clutch project works out to about $5,107 a month over a 12-month engagement, the closest published benchmark for agency social media management packages that bundle strategy and reporting.
How much should I pay a social media manager per post?
Upwork and Clutch publish hourly rates for these services, so per-post pricing comes down to time spent per post. At Upwork's $20 median, a post that takes one hour of creating, designing and scheduling costs $20; at a US agency's $100 to $149 an hour, the same hour costs five to seven times more.
What does it cost to manage Instagram alone?
Metricool's free plan can manage Instagram for one brand with 20 posts a month, and Buffer Essentials covers one Instagram channel for $5 a month. Later's Starter plan, $18.75 a month yearly, schedules up to 30 posts per profile across one social set.
Is Agorapulse good value for money?
For a team of three on 10 profiles, Agorapulse Standard costs $2,844 a year against $3,564 for Hootsuite Standard and $10,764 for Sprout Social Professional. Every paid tier includes 10 profiles, and listening & advocacy cost extra.
Bottom line
Social media management pricing turns on the billing unit. A team of three on 10 profiles pays $495 on Later, $3,564 on Hootsuite and $14,988 on Emplifi, and the gap closes for a solo user on one brand, who can stay on Buffer's free plan.
Count the users, social media profiles and clients your social media strategy needs before reading any pricing page, then price the add-ons the plan leaves out: listening, AI credits, X access and analytics. Those extras decide if a $99 seat stays a $99 seat. Agency services start where the software ends, at $25 to $49 an hour on Clutch.
Above five seats, Vendr's medians of $12,405 for Hootsuite and $18,980 for Sprout Social are the budget line, and a 14% to 15% discount is the negotiating target.
