Web scraping pricing in 2026: why the same 1,000 pages cost $1.35 or $12.25

A rendered page through premium proxies costs 9 times as much on ScraperAPI's entry plan as on Oxylabs' entry plan.

ScraperAPI's hardest request costs 75 times its easiest, $36.75 per 1,000 against $0.49.

Zyte's $11,400 and Bright Data's $27,000 Vendr averages are the only public contract figures for the quote-only tier.

A scraper API price page quotes the price of the easiest page. On 30 September 2026, 1,000 JavaScript-rendered pages through premium proxies cost $1.35 on Oxylabs' $49 Micro plan, $5.00 on ScrapingBee's $49.99 plan and $12.25 on ScraperAPI's $49 plan. The ScraperAPI price is 9 times the Oxylabs price for the same pages in the same week.

Credit multipliers cause that gap. A credit plan charges 1 credit for a plain request and up to 75 for a rendered, protected one, so a $49 plan buys a known number of pages only once the page type is known. Past a few hundred dollars a month the market switches to quote-only contracts, where Vendr's tracked average contract for Bright Data is $27,000.

This guide breaks the cost of web scraping into billing models, the key variables that move a bill, managed contracts & in-house builds. Every rate comes straight from the horse's mouth, the vendor's own page, on 30 September 2026. For a shortlist ranked on features, see the web scraping tools ranking.

How web scraping pricing works

Four pricing models share the category, and each bills a different unit. Apify's Starter plan opens the self-serve end at $19 a month plus pay as you go, and published plans climb to ScrapingDog's Nova Pro at $30,000 a month.

ModelOne unit buysExample rate
Credit plansOne request at 1 to 75 credits$49 for 100,000 credits (ScraperAPI)
Flat per request or resultOne result, rendering included$1.5 per 1,000 (Bright Data)
Per-GB proxy bandwidthOne GB through residential IPs$4 per GB (Bright Data)
Quote-only managed dataA delivered dataset$1,500 a month minimum (ScrapeHero)

Example rates are each vendor's list price, read 30 September 2026.

Freelancers and agencies add hourly billing and fixed project fees. A scraper API bundles proxies, rendering and retries into the request price, which strips most engineering overhead out of the bill.

Credit based pricing divides the plan price by the credit cost of each page. Every computed figure here takes plan price divided by plan credits, times credits per request, times 1,000, on an entry plan near $49.

ScrapeOps' own data puts residential bandwidth at $15 per GB in 2020 and $5 in 2025, while credits per successful payload went from 1.2 to 2.8. Zyte founder Shane Evans wrote in January 2026 that anti-bot complexity "has gone past the point where human developers can, or should, manage it manually."

Scraper API prices on a $49 entry plan

On plain HTML the credit plans look cheapest. Add JavaScript rendering and a premium proxy and the order flips.

VendorEntry rateStaticRenderedRendered + premium proxyHardest mode
Oxylabs$49 Micro$1.15$1.35$1.35$1.35
Bright DataPay as you go$1.50$1.50$1.50$1.50
Zyte APIPay as you go$0.13$1.01Set by site tier$16.08

ScrapingDog$40 Lite$0.20$1.00$5.00$5.00

Credit-plan rows are computed as plan price divided by plan credits, times the credits each mode costs, per 1,000 requests. The Oxylabs, Bright Data and Zyte rows are the vendors' printed rates.

Bar chart of the price of 1,000 JavaScript-rendered pages through premium proxies on each vendor's entry rate on 30 September 2026: Oxylabs $1.35, Bright Data $1.50, ScrapingDog $5.00, ScrapingBee $5.00 and ScraperAPI $12.25
The same 1,000 rendered, proxied pages cost $1.35 on Oxylabs and $12.25 on ScraperAPI's $49 plan.

On credit plans the devil's in the details of scraping costs. ScraperAPI's docs list 1, 10, 25 and 75 credits per request by mode against 100,000 credits on Hobby, enough for 4,000 rendered pages through premium proxies. ScrapingBee's 250,000 credits cover 250,000 plain requests or 10,000 of those protected pages.

The real value of a flat rate shows on protected pages. Oxylabs' Micro plan covers up to 98,000 results for $49, premium proxies included. Bright Data's Web Unlocker charges $1.5 per 1,000 pay as you go, or $499 a month for 383K requests, and the two meet in Bright Data vs Oxylabs.

Rendering, proxy management and anti bot systems

Four inputs move a credit-plan bill, rendering, proxy class, the target website and the output format. Scraper API approaches that bill per result fold all four into one price, a 1x to 2.7x spread against 25x to 123.7x on credit and tier ladders.

Log-scale bar chart of the gap between each vendor's hardest and easiest page per 1,000 requests: Bright Data 1x, Oxylabs 2.7x, ScrapingDog 25x, ScraperAPI 75x, ScrapingBee 80x and Zyte API 123.7x
Zyte's pay-as-you-go ladder spans 123.7x from cheapest request to costliest render.

JavaScript rendering

JavaScript heavy sites need a headless browser, which takes more resources. The Web Scraping Club puts an HTML fetch at 100 KB and a full render at 1.7 MB, 17 times the bandwidth. A render burns more credits, 10 on ScraperAPI against 1 for raw HTML.

Bright Data bundles JS rendering & CAPTCHA solving into every Web Unlocker plan, and Firecrawl charges 1 credit a page with or without rendering.

Residential proxies

Residential proxies cost more than datacenter proxy IPs on every card checked. Apify charges $8 per GB of residential traffic and $1 per datacenter IP after 30 included.

A web scraper wired to one proxy pool has all its eggs in one basket. In July the FBI seized hundreds of domains tied to the NetNut residential network, and KrebsOnSecurity reported that its publicly traded operator, Alarum Technologies, lost roughly 67 percent of its share price in a week.

"I think this takedown is going to have a big impact, because NetNut gained significant popularity after the IPIDEA takedown,"

Benjamin Brundage, founder of Synthient, quoted by KrebsOnSecurity, July 2026.

Anti bot protection and captcha solving

ScraperAPI adds 10 credits when it bypasses Cloudflare, Datadome or PerimeterX, and ScrapingBee's stealth proxy costs 75 credits, 80 with an AI query, or $16.00 per 1,000. DIY infrastructure prices captcha solving as its own line, with Octoparse charging $1 to $1.5 per 1,000 CAPTCHAs.

E-commerce and search targets

Costs rise with target complexity and update frequency. ScraperAPI charges 5 credits for Amazon, 25 for Google and 30 for LinkedIn, and Oxylabs runs from $0.50 per 1,000 Amazon results to $1.00 for Google. Scrapeway's 11 to 25 September 2026 benchmark measured Amazon at $0.20 per 1,000 delivered pages on ScrapingDog and $2.45 on ScraperAPI. Finished e-commerce feeds come from price monitoring tools.

Google added a cost in August. PPC Land reported that result links now route through goto redirects, and Derek Perkins, CEO of rank tracker Nozzle, measured 500 to 1,000 extra requests per five-page ranking. DataForSEO multiplies its SERP task price by 5 per search operator, detailed in the DataForSEO pricing report.

AI data extraction

AI output is billed as a multiplier on the page. Firecrawl's rate card, effective 4 September 2026, adds 4 credits per page for JSON data extraction, so 1,000 pages on the Standard plan ($83 a month billed annually) go from $0.83 to $4.15. ScrapingBee's Agentic search costs 3,750 credits, about $0.75 a search.

Hidden costs in the billing fine print

Bright Data's Web Scraper API page promises "Only pay for what's successfully delivered." Success-based billing is the category's pitch, and the definition of success decides the bill. Expiring credits and billed 404s are par for the course.

Data quality and failed requests

Failed requests cost money even under success billing, because a low success rate means retries and slower data collection. Scrapeway's benchmark measures overall efficiency as the price per 1,000 delivered pages, ScrapingBee $1.51 at a 33% success rate, ScraperAPI $4.05 at 52%, Firecrawl $2.70 at 72% and Scrapfly $3.14 at 98%.

Target sites that charge scrapers

Compliance with site owners' terms now carries a price. Publishers on Cloudflare's Pay Per Crawl set a price of at least $0.001 per crawl, $1.00 per 1,000 pages. Cloudflare's 1 July 2026 release says it's "evolving Pay Per Crawl into Pay Per Use", and from 15 September new customers, new sites and unchanged free accounts block training and agent use on pages with ads by default.

Managed services and enterprise contracts

Managed scraping services price by contract and return cleaned records, where APIs return raw data. Two of the three managed specialists checked publish no price. PromptCloud sends a proposal within 24 to 48 business hours, and Grepsr bills one-time extractions per data record. Finished web data overlaps with the alternative data providers market.

Published floors are vendor list prices. Tracked contracts are Vendr averages from its marketplace header block.

Published managed minimums run from $500 to $8,000 a month, and data volume drives the price above them. At the top the bill costs an arm and a leg. ScrapeHero Enterprise Premium's $8,000 floor is $96,000 a year before extra pages at $500 to $1,800 per million, and Vendr estimates Bright Data managed projects at $10,000 to $250,000 or more.

The vendor runs the pipeline end to end, so the buyer's engineering time goes into reviewing deliverables. The data mining tools ranking covers the self-run route.

Bright Data

Bright Data sells into both markets. Self-serve, it gives 5,000 free requests a month, charges $1.5 per 1,000 pay as you go and sells datasets at $250 for 100,000 records. Its residential Proxy Starter plan carries a $500 minimum monthly commitment. The Bright Data MCP server has a separate review.

The contract terms carry the risk. Vendr's buyer guide estimates auto-renewals rising 3% to 10% a year, overage billed 20% to 50% above the contract rate, and enterprise deals closing 25% to 40% below the first quote. Read between the lines and the first quote is a number to negotiate down.

Bright Data's $4 per GB residential rate comes from a Bright Data blog post ranking residential proxy providers, a vendor grading its own market. Vendr's guide puts residential at $8 to $15 per GB. The RESIGB50 residential promo lists three months & six months on the same page.

Two platforms sued Bright Data over scraping and both lost. Senior US District Judge Edward Chen ruled against Meta in January 2024, finding Bright Data scraped logged out, "acting in the exact same capacity as any outside nonsubscribing visitor" (Courthouse News). In May 2024 Judge William Alsup dismissed X Corp's suit, writing that "X Corp. wants it both ways" (CNBC).

The residential network has a history. In May 2015 TorrentFreak reported that the free Hola VPN sold a premium service "through its Luminati brand" built on its users' bandwidth, and that an attacker used the Luminati network to crash 8chan. Luminati rebranded as Bright Data in March 2021.

Development costs and the real cost of building in-house

DIY tools start at $0 on free tiers, such as Apify's $5 of monthly usage and Firecrawl's 1,000 credits, and move costs into engineering time. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the median software developer wage at $135,980 a year in May 2025, about $65 an hour before adding benefits. An in-house scraping team of three costs $407,940 a year in wages, the same as one developer for three years, and that's the opening line of any TCO comparison.

Web scrapers require ongoing maintenance every year because targets change their markup, and maintenance eats engineering time. Each 8-hour day spent fixing selectors, rotating proxy IPs or handling errors costs about $523 in wages, and that day is also the opportunity cost of whatever didn't ship.

At large scale, many teams split the engineering required between senior scraping engineers on anti-bot work, mid level developers on data parsing, cleaning data & error handling, and DevOps engineers on infrastructure & data storage.

Operational costs keep running after launch. Here are per-GB proxy rates converted at The Web Scraping Club's page weights.

Vendor and rate1,000 HTML pages (0.1 GB)1,000 rendered pages (1.7 GB)
Bright Data, $4 per GB$0.40$6.80
Decodo, $3.75 per GB$0.38$6.38
SOAX Enterprise, $0.85 per GB ($3,000 a month)$0.09$1.45
Apify, $8 per GB$0.80$13.60
Zyte API tier 1, per request$0.13$1.01

Computed from each vendor's per-GB list price and The Web Scraping Club's page weights (100 KB HTML, 1.7 MB rendered). Zyte's row is its printed per-request rate.

Teams that choose freelancers pay a fraction of a hire for the build. Upwork puts typical rates at $20 to $40 an hour, with projects at $200 to $600 for a single site, $600 to $2,000 multisite, $2,000 to $5,000 for JavaScript or API work and $3,000 to $8,000 for an enterprise pipeline. Maintenance costs continue after the handover.

Decision framework

Building scrapers or buying them depends on the specific situation, so weigh technical capabilities before price.

  • A one time project with clear requirements fits a $200 to $600 freelancer. Evaluate deliverables on a sample before paying.
  • Ongoing projects on plain HTML fit a credit plan or Zyte's HTTP tier, at $0.13 to $0.49 per 1,000.
  • Rendered, protected pages fit a flat per-result vendor, at $1.35 to $1.50 per 1,000.
  • Business critical feeds behind business decisions, with nobody holding the technical knowledge to manage quality oversight, fit a managed service from $500 a month, trading the maintenance overhead of a $523 engineering day for a monthly minimum.

Five web scraping price claims that don't hold up

Five figures from SERP pricing guides were checked against vendor pages on 30 September 2026. Four miss the mark outright, and the rendering rule holds for 4 of 9 vendors. The same stale-figure pattern runs through the software pricing errors report.

Frequently asked questions

How much does web scraping cost per 1,000 pages?

From $0.06 on Zyte HTTP requests at a $500 monthly commitment to $36.75 on ScraperAPI Hobby with ultra premium proxies and rendering.

Is web scraping illegal in the US?

Two platform suits against logged-out scraping failed in 2024. Judge Chen held that Meta's terms bound Bright Data only while logged into an account, and Judge Alsup dismissed X Corp's suit.

Does Cloudflare charge AI scrapers?

Publishers on Pay Per Crawl charge at least $0.001 per crawl, and since 15 September 2026 new Cloudflare sites block training and agent crawlers on pages with ads by default.

Bottom line

Price the hardest page you need. The same $49 ScraperAPI plan buys 1,000 pages at $0.49 or $36.75 depending on mode, and Oxylabs charges $1.35 for the protected page that costs $12.25 on ScraperAPI.

Plain pages are cheapest on credit plans, and rendered, protected pages on flat per-result rates. Contract buyers have Vendr's $27,000 Bright Data average and ScrapeHero's $8,000 minimum as anchors.
